PROGRAM DESCRIPTION/CURRICULUM GUIDE

Springdale Montessori School’s goal is to help the children develop intellectually, socially, and physically. We follow each child and present carefully designed lessons and materials on a one-to-one basis, as the child is ready. The following areas are included in our program:
Core Curriculum- Primary Program (3 years-6 years)
Practical life -In Practical Life the child develops a sense of order, concentration, personal pride, independence, respect for others, fine motor skills, grace, courtesy, confidence and self-esteem. Activities such as pouring or buttoning and unbuttoning help develop fine motor skills and concentration.
Sensorial -Sensorial activities help the child understand the information he/she receives from his/her environment. Sensorial impressions are infinite. The joy of naming what one can touch, taste, see, smell and hear helps the child discriminate, appreciate and understand his/her world.
Language -Through the use of a multitude of activities, the child first learns his/her phonetic sounds, phonetic reading and writing, irregular or sight words, phonograms and blends, which lead to fluent reading.
Mathematics -By the use of concrete materials the child first learns to identify and recognize numbers together with basic counting, then systematically progresses to solving addition & subtraction and get introduced to multiplication & division. Measurements, time and money are also covered.
Cultural Studies -The Child starts with land, water, and air, and progresses to the study of the world's regions, the universe, and the delicate balance of nature. The study of botany is child centered, using live plants and gardening as a knowledge and interest catalyst. The child also learns about needs, habits and characteristics of the world's animals.
Enrichment Programs
History -The unique history of Springdale and the Goose Creek Historic District creates a place-based framework that helps the child recognize and appreciate our local history. Site-specific programs designed especially for Springdale will help the children explore the native cultural resources and historic architecture and landscape unique to Springdale's school environment.
Community -The Child develops an understanding of the importance of 'community', both local and global. Through activities such as story-telling, map-making, scavenger hunts, and visits from local guests such as: farmers, artisan, musicians and historians.
Environment -The basic principals of environmental stewardship and responsibility will be introduced to the children through participation of recycling activities and ecological programs designed specifically for Springdale Montessori School.
Art & Music - Creative art and music projects utilizing various formats and media.
